7-8-10 Taking a short break
We are taking a brake till September... Well, that is the official story. The reality is that some of us cannot resist working on new material in the mean while. Take care!

17-7-10 First show new line-up TSC
Last friday we played our first gig with new drummer Matthieu at the Bastille in Schoonhoven and we were all quite pleased with how it went.  Talking about drummers, if you want to see our "old" drummer Victor handling drumming duties at The Sin Committee for the last time, be sure to check us out coming Wednesday at The Backstage (Nijmegen) and Thursday at the Affaire festival in Nijmegen (In-Motion stage). More information about these shows (location & time) can be found here. Finally, you can read our latest newsletter here in case you missed it (Dutch only).

29-5-10 Good bye show Victor
For those of you who want to see our drummer Victor Smeets abusing his drumkit one last time in The Sin Committee, be sure to attend his good bye show on the 21st of July at the Backstage in Nijmegen. We intend to make it a truly memorable show, so be sure to be there. The gig, in which we will play with our fellow metallers Intero, will take place on the wednesday in the week of the Summer Events.

13-5-10 Ready to roll
Things are going really well with Matthieu, our new drummer. We have reached a point in which he can play a solid 30 minute set with us, meaning we are ready to start playing gigs with him. At this point we are really looking forward to start writing new stuff to unleash Matthieu's drumming frenzy upon the world, in a The Sin Committee style that is. As things are looking at the moment, new material will be more brutal due to Matthieu's technical skills and speed. Apart from that we don't have too much news to report, aside a new kick ass review from American metal e-zine "Metal Underground". You can check the review here. Take care!

29-4-10 TSC announces new drummer
The Sin Committee is excited to announce that Matthieu Boer will replace Victor Smeets as the drummer of The Sin Committee. We are convinced Matthieu has the technical qualities, creativity and motivation that will help us take the band to the next level. You can check out some of his drumming here. While we are happy that Matthieu has joined our ranks, we are nevertheless sad that Victor will leave the band. At this moment, We are planning a "good bye gig" for him and as soon as we have something arranged, we'll put in on our website.

1-4-10 Drummer update
People keep asking us whether we've already found our new drummer. Well, we've kept it quiet thusfar, but the truth is we have been jamming with a very talented and friendly guy who also happens to be from our home town Nijmegen. In the next two weeks, in which we'll do some more jams with him, we expect to know for sure whether he will become the newest member of The Sin Committee family. Apart from that, we've also been working on new stuff, and we feel it seriously kicks ass! We'll play some new material in our coming shows, so be sure to check us out.

25-2-10 Aardschok: Confess "strong as iron"
They just keep coming, those reviews. In the past weeks we got more then excellent reviews from the Dutch Aardschok en Music Maker magazines. We were especially happy to hear that Aardschok magazine was impressed with our work, hell yeah! Apart from that we had a great gig in the Mezz in the city of Breda last weekend, and we will continue with our auditions for a new drummer next week.

8-2-10 TSC interviewed by Progwereld
So what has happened in The Sin Committee universe recently? Well, we have been interviewed by Dutch webmagazine Progwereld who gave a more then excellent review of "Confess" some time ago. Check out the interview here (Dutch only). Apart from that we've been working on what we feel is kick ass material. One of the new songs is probably the most heavy TSC-song we have writen thusfar and we are really excited about it. Finally, we have been busy looking for a future replacement of our drummer Victor. Thus far we still haven't found anybody so if you know somebody, please contact us!

23-1-10 Looking for a drummer
The year of 2009 was truly an exciting year for The Sin Committee. We released a professional CD, got dozens of highly positive reviews from all around the world, launched a new website and got our own T-shirts to name just a few things. It is clear that the band has made great steps forward in just a short time span. In fact, we feel this is this is only the beginning considering our ambitions and the kicks ass songs we’ve already written for our next CD. Realizing our ambitions, however, requires all band members to share the same motivation. Some time ago our drummer Victor told us that in the long run he wouldn’t be able to deliver what we needed to realize our goals. As such, we decided to start looking for a new drummer. Luckily the band can continue to function as normal as Victor is more than happy to keep playing with us, doing gigs and writing songs, as long as we need.

What we are looking for is a drummer who:
- is passionate about the music we make
- is at least as good as our current drummer
- is motivated and shares our ambition to bring the band to the next level (e.g. regular gigs, score a label, do some touring once a while)
- has (band)experience with writing own songs
- lives in, our near, Nijmegen, or who is willing to travel to Nijmegen for rehearsals.

What we offer is an established band which has its stuff well organized, a lot of room for creativity and ambition and above all, we offer lots of fun. Are you that drummer, don’t hesitate to contact us either by e-mail () or by calling Willem: 06-48158396. If you think you know a suitable drummer for The Sin Committee, be sure to help us out and tell that person about the opportunity we offer.

4-1-10 T-shirts, new reviews and an interview
A happy new year to you all!! After the excellent review they gave us, Lords of Metal thought it was time for an interview. Click here if you want to learn how our guitar-player Raymon responded to a whole range of questions (Dutch & English). Furthermore, we didn’t think we would get any more reviews, but they just keep coming. Check out the excellent reviews we got from Brutalism (English) and LiveXS (Dutch). Finally, the t-shirts are there. They turned out as cool as we hoped they would do and for the meagre amount of 12 euros you can have one for yourselves. Send us an e-mail or simply come to one of our gigs if you are interested.

8-12-09 Lords of Metal: Confess "awesome record"
Renowned Dutch metal Magazine Lords of Metal has reviewed “Confess” and branded the EP as “an awesome record” worth an 85/100. You can read the full review here. Furthermore, our singer Joris and bass-player Willem have recently been interviewed on the radio. You can listen to the interview here (Dutch only). Finally, we expect the new t-shirts to arrive any day now. As soon as we have them, we’ll post a news update.

16-11-09 TSC presents t-shirt design
We are proud to present the design of our new t-shirts (check out the picture below). The design comes from our guitar player Raymon. The shirts, which will be of high quality material, will be available within a few weeks. As soon as they are available, we’ll post a message on our website. You can get a TSC-shirt by sending us an e-mail or by buying them during our live shows.

21-10-09 TSC interviewed by Zware Metalen

Our bass player Willem has been interviewed by Dutch metal e-zine Zware metalen and discusses, amongst others, the new EP, songwriting and the future of the band. You can check out the interview here.

6-10-09 Confess demo of the month

German metal magazine Bloodchamber has selected Confess as the best demo of September 2009. Check it out here.

2-10-09 TSC releases new video

With proud we finally present the video of the title track of our new EP titled “Confess”. You can watch the clip below (right-hand corner). Confess was directed by long-time friend of the band Stefan Bolder. Overall, releasing the video took us a little bit longer than we planned, mainly due to the fact that our summer holidays came in between. We feel, however, that the end result was well worth the wait. You can read more about how we recorded the video in the latest band-interviews which can be found at the “press” section.

28-9-09 The boys are back in town

Due to our holidays, it has been some time since our last news update. But now everyone is back and we have some new stuff to report as well. First of all we’ve got several new gigs confirmed and a few more are in the pipeline. We expect to confirm more gigs in the course of this week. For those of you eager to hear some of our new material, be sure to be there.

Furthermore, our bass player Willem has been interviewed by US-based ezine “Metal fanatix”. Check the interview here. In addition, we’ve got several new reviews from German magazines "Blood Chamber", "Arising Realm" and "Underground Empire", as well as a review from Dutch magazine "Progwereld". Thusfar this amounts to a total of 28 praising reviews since the release of Confess in March this year! Not bad huh?!  In other words, it is quite safe to say that Confess has been received very well . Armed with these reviews we plan to approach record labels in the near future to see if we can secure a deal. We'll keep you posted on any new developments on this front.

VPRO's 3voor12 regularly compiles promising local acts under the name "MP3voor12". They have just released Volume III has been released which, amongst others, also contains the title track of “Confess”. Check it out here.

Finally, our guitar player Raymon expects to finish the artwork for new TSC t-shirts. As soon the design is ready, we’ll post it online. More information on the t-shirts will follow shortly.

22-8-09 New interviews and reviews

For those of you who are eager to read some new stuff about The Sin Committee, we’ve got tons of new material. In the last few weeks the band has been interviewed by ‘Scarred for live’, Behind the Veil’ and ‘Musik Terrorverlag’ Magazines. In addition, Confess has received numerous new reviews by ‘Behind the Veil’, ‘Musik discovery’, ‘Allmetal resource’ and 'Digital-Steel' magazines' and ‘Real-rock radio'. Finally, our vocalist Joris has written about how he experienced our recent gig at the Valkhof Affaire Festival. Check it out here.

Apart from that, the band is taking it easy during the next few weeks due to our summer holidays. After the holiday, we plan to launch our music video of ‘Confess’ (finally!) and focus more on playing gigs. We’re busy working on new songs so you can expect to hear us play some new songs during our next live performance. Take care and enjoy your holidays!

9-8-09 Contest winners Confess

We’ve gotten some very cool responses to our contest in which you had to describe your interpretation of the Confess artwork. We chose five winners who will each receive their copy of Confess in the coming days. For all others, Confess is also for sale for the meager amount of 7 euros (w.o. shipping) if you send an email to: info@thesincommittee.com. If you still want a free copy of Confess…there will be more contests to win it in the future.

Check out the raving thoughts of the contest winners HERE (sorry in Dutch only)

23-7-09 Win a copy of Confess

There we have it folks, the first The Sin Committee contest…. I don’t know who of you has ever looked at the front-cover of Confess, but lets be honest, the image is pretty weird. Well, that happens when you have an artist in the band… Anyway, the good thing about such a front-image is that forms excellent material for a contest, and it goes as follows:

What do you see in the front-cover image of Confess?

E-mail your interpretation to info@thesincommittee.com and the five most original interpretations win a copy of Confess. Furthermore, the winning contributions are posted on our website so everybody can enjoy your (hopefully) crazy thoughts. Submissions should be either in Dutch our English (we are lousy in other languages) and the winners will be announced before the end of the month.

4-7-09 Metal Observer awards Confess with 9/10

We’ve got a couple of new reviews and they really made us smile. Canadian metal magazine Metal Observer gave Confess a 9 out of 10. Furthermore, we received lots of praise from the German magazines Terrorverlag and Powermetal. Hell yeah!!! In addition, The Sin Committee has been interviewed by French metal Magazin Pavilion666. Check out the reviews and interview at the “Press” section. Finally, the music video of “Confess” is nearing completion. As soon as it is available, we’ll post it on our website.

15-6-09 Working on new material

During the last few weeks we’ve been working on some new material and we can tell you, it is going to kick ass major! The song we are currently working has lots of cool riffs, odd time signatures and unexpected twists. The band is really excited to be back in writing mode again after having spend so much time on recording and launching the new CD. Furthermore, in case you missed it The Sin Committee is playing coming Friday at “The Stage” in Arnhem. Be sure to be there! Finally, we’ve got two new reviews; one from Ragazzi magazine and one from Hierophant-nox.

1-6-09 TSC plays at the Affaire Festival

We have been confirmed to play at the Affaire festival in our home town Nijmegen on the 19th of July. A lot of cool bands will play that day including Gojira and Lysogenic Cycle, so be sure to be there! Furthermore, we’ve got a new review of Confess from the “Teeth of the Divine“ magazine and a video of our song “Confess” shot during our CD-presentation has been posted on Youtube. See:

19-5-09 Videoshoot of Confess and other stuff

Last Sunday we finished shooting the video of “Confess”. The video was shot at a run-down industrial area close to an old factory which has been out of use for ages. The video was directed by Stefan Bolder, a close friend of the band, who will also do the editing duties. All in all it was a cool and fun experience and we are very much looking forward to see the end result! As soon as the video is finished we’ll post it on our website and use it in a promotion campaign for our new EP.

We’ve also updated the website in numerous ways. Updates include several new reviews of Confess (among them a raving review from Dutch metalzine “Zware metalen”) and a completely updated band biography (both a short and long version). In the coming week we also expect to post a live video of the song “Regression of Faith” shot during our CD-presentation in the Merleyn last April. Furthermore, we have a new gig planned the Stage in Arnhem at the 19th of June. We have more stuff in the pipeline so as soon as we have something confirmed, we’ll put it on the website. For now, spread the word of The Sin Committee!

2-5-09 Short news

Some of you might have noticed that we have no gigs planned at the moment. This does not mean, however, that The Sin Committee is taking it easy. In fact, we are busier than ever! We are currently working on several gigs and as soon as we have something confirmed, we'll put in on the website. In addition, we are busy working on the upcoming videoclip of Confess, preparing a newsletter and looking for other bands with whom we can play with. So if you know a suitable band, don't hesitate and contact us!!

Recording Confess

When we started thinking about recording a new EP early 2008, we soon decided to go for a professional sound this time. We felt we had progressed as a band and wanted our new recording to reflect this development. In comparison with our earlier material the new songs are clearly more complex and also more “metal”. This is also the reason why we went looking for a studio with somebody capable of making us sound accordingly. Fortunately, a good friend of ours introduced us to Erwin Hermsen of Toneshed recording studio. Erwin has been recording metal, rock, punk and hardcore bands for more than a decade now. Besides his work as a recording engineer & producer, Erwin is also a musician himself. Check out his current project “Spitting Nails” here: http://www.myspace.com/spittingnailsmetal
Pretty cool stuff huh!? By the way, these guys are still looking for a vocalist, so if you know someone….

Anyway, at the beginning of the recording process we really took the time to create the best sound possible. We tried different guitar amps, different guitar and bass amp-settings, different guitar speakers, different snare drums and different microphones for the vocals. You get the idea!! At a certain point we were happy with our sound, and fortunately someone was smart enough to write down all the settings for the next day. During the recording process Erwin provided lots of input, ranging from vocal harmonies and grunt techniques to some fine-tuning of guitar and bass riffs. We found out it is not only really cool to have an external person taking a critical look at your music but also very valuable!

After we had recorded everything, which took around eight days, the mixing and production-phase started. Very few people realize that this is when your recordings transform from OK to GREAT! What basically happened is that Erwin did a lot of mixing to ensure the drums, bass, guitars and vocals sounded intense and thick while ensuring the sound to remain transparent. All and all, it was a really cool experience and we are already looking forward to our next recording!
